Each household may sign up for all three global magazines: the ‘Liahona,’ ‘For the Strength of Youth’ and the ‘Friend’
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is offering print
subscriptions at no cost to its three magazines, which are currently
published in 50 languages and distributed to millions of Church members
worldwide.
Beginning August 1, 2023, anyone with a Church account
in certain parts of the world will be able to sign up for one annual
subscription (per household) to one or more of the Church’s magazines:
the “Liahona” (for adults), “For the Strength of Youth” (for youth ages
12 to 18) and “Friend” (for children). The new subscription system will
roll out to the rest of the world over the next several months. No-cost
subscriptions will be an ongoing offer in the years to come.
“The Church wants to give
greater access to the words of the prophets, and we are excited to make
the printed copies of the Church magazines available at no cost.” —Elder
Dieter F. Uchtdorf
“We come closer to Jesus Christ as we consistently participate in gospel study in the home,” said Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf
of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. “The Church wants to give greater
access to the words of the prophets, and we are excited to make the
printed copies of the Church magazines available at no cost.”
The Church has published the words of living prophets and helped
members understand the gospel of Jesus Christ through magazines and
other periodicals since the 1830s.
In recent years, Church magazines have undergone significant changes
to support members in their efforts to learn and live the gospel of
Jesus Christ, and their content has been made more accessible to members
worldwide. In 2021, the Church began publishing its magazines for each
age group in multiple languages; they are now available in 50 languages
in both print and digital formats. Additional languages are available
digitally.
The “Liahona” for adults highlights the teachings and ministry of
Church leaders, shares inspiring articles that show how to apply gospel
principles, supports learning the gospel at home and provides insight
into scriptural topics.
“For the Strength of Youth” has spiritually uplifting messages from
Apostles and other Church leaders, testimonies and experiences from
youth all over the world, fun activities, and inspiration and strength
to help youth find joy as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
The “Friend” invites children worldwide to follow Jesus Christ. Each
issue contains scripture stories, child-friendly messages from prophets
and other Church leaders, games and coloring pages, and stories of
children throughout the world who are putting their faith in the Savior
into action.
“Church magazines are a valuable resource for learning about the
gospel of Jesus Christ and feeling a sense of belonging in His Church,”
the First Presidency stated in a 2020 letter
to Latter-day Saints worldwide. “Our desire is that members everywhere
will subscribe and welcome this faith-sustaining influence into their
hearts and homes.”
“As I read the stories from members from around the world, I love
seeing how we are a global church, all building the kingdom of God
together,” said Relief Society General President Camille N. Johnson. “It helps me feel closer to our brothers and sisters who may live very far away.”

these groups will require permission from members who need additional
help and from the children's parents.
From Gmail to Maps, Google offers a
ton of useful apps. For instance, this article was originally drafted on

What many people don’t know is that Google also offers many online
courses — and some of them include free certificates or badges!
Indeed, besides offering courses on platforms likeCoursera andUdacity,Google itself runs a series of educational platforms with different goals. For example, theGrow with Google initiative and Google’s Digital Garage offer online courses to help learners gain digital skills or prepare them to run online businesses.
Fortunately, hundreds of these
courses offer free certificates or badges. We even earned a few
ourselves, as you’ll see below. So we decided to sift through Google’s
entire online learning ecosystem to compile all their free certificate
courses.
In total, we found 600 courses,
covering topics such as digital marketing, Google Analytics, and Google
Cloud. You can find the full list below.
Without further ado, here are Google’s online courses with free certificates and badges.
Free Google Analytics Certifications
In 2023, Google will complete the transition to the latest major version of its analytics platform, Google Analytics 4. For the occasion, Google has launched new online courses, including a free certification program with certificate:
But Google also continues to offer free certificates courses for its Universal Analytics platform through its Google Analytics Academy,
as you can see below. While the Universal Analytics platform will stop
working soon, the courses might still be helpful, since a lot of the
concepts also apply to Google Analytics 4.
Each course includes a series of videos and assessments. After getting a score of 80% or higher
on each assessment, you’ll earn a free certificate of completion, like
the one above. These will appear on your profile on the platform, but
you can also download them and share them via LinkedIn.
Here are the free certificate courses offered on the platform:
Google Digital Garage provides 160 online courses to learn digital skills on a wide variety of topics. Most notably, the course Fundamentals of Digital Marketing
offered by Google includes a free certificate of completion. The course
includes 26 modules, each with their own video and quiz.
For each module you complete, you’ll earn a badge. Once you complete
all the modules, you’ll unlock a certificate like the one above. All
your badges and certificates will be added to your profile page.
Google Skillshop
provides free training programs for a large number of Google services,
including their marketing tools. There are courses on all the following
subjects: Google Ads, Google AdMob, Google Marketing Platform, Google My
Business, YouTube, and more.
Currently, Google Skillshop offers 14
online courses with a free certificate of completion. As usual, you’ll
unlock the certificate once you complete the course assessments. One
difference here is that these courses are all text-based. In all, Google
Skillshop offers around 80 courses, most without certificates.
The Google Developers Platform offers a wealth of resources for professional and aspiring developers. In particular, the platform has over 1000 online courses from beginner to advanced levels to learn:
Programming: Kotlin, JavaScript, Go…
Specific libraries: TensorFlow, Angular, Flutter…
Software & services: Kubernetes, Maps, Pay…
Notably, a substantial portion of the platform’s catalog is dedicated to Android development.
You can take individual courses, but if you’re looking for a deeper dive, you may prefer one of Google’s 130 learning pathways.
These consist of a sequence of mini-courses and culminate in a quiz.
After passing the quiz, you’ll receive a badge that appears on your
developer profile.
Here’s a selection of courses you may take on the platform:
Free Google Certifications from Google Cloud Skill Boost (Qwiklabs)
Qwiklabs,
a startup acquired by Google and since then rebranded to Google Cloud
Skills Boost (though the Qwiklabs name lingers), lets you learn Google
Cloud through a hands-on approach. On the platform, you can complete 600+ labs in a real cloud environment.
Lab Credits
While the platform offers free or
free-to-audit courses, completing labs typically requires spending
“credits”. However, there are multiple ways to get credits for free.
For instance, if you’re a student with a valid university email address, you can claim 200free Qwiklabs credits through this page. That’s what I (Manoel) did a few years back, allowing me to earn the certificate above. Or take a look at this post on Medium for other ways to get free credits.
In addition to individual labs, you
can take full courses and so-called “quests”. Some courses include labs,
while quests typically consist of a series of labs. There are over 250+courses and 148 quests. These may end with a timed assessment. Upon completion you’ll receive a badge.
Finally, there are 35learning paths, which consist of a series of quests and courses. The Introduction to Generative AI Learning Path is completely free, while some other learning paths incorporate labs. They are also free when you use free lab credits.
250 Qwiklabs Courses
Similar to quests, Qwiklabs courses
consist of a sequence of lessons, quizzes, and labs. Upon completion of
all the elements, you’ll unlock a badge for your Qwiklabs profile. Look
out for how to get free lab credits for those courses with labs.
Qwiklabs quests,
just like learning paths, consist of a series of labs. These are
hands-on activities conducted within a real cloud environment. That’s
what makes Qwiklabs special: you’re getting genuine hands-on practice.
For instance, if you start a Kubernetes quest, you’ll be dropped into a realGKE instance — that is, an actual virtual compute cluster created temporarily for you to practice on.
