CAPE TOWN/South Africa: 2023 belongs to Kaizer
Chiefs Juniors. This past weekend AMAKHOSI showed why they continue to
be a force to be reckoned with in the southern African soccer landscape.
On Sunday, AMAKHOSI walked away with three of the four age-group titles contested on the day.
As reports confirm, Kaizer Chiefs dominated Cup Final day in the 2023
SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL) Youth Cup at Marks Park.
The Under 13s had a remarkable unbeaten season with victory over Mamelodi Sundowns to complete the league and cup double.
And the Under 17s won against the Transnet School of Excellence after a nail-biting penalty shootout to lift the trophy.
The Under 19s joined in, by adding “the third piece of silverware
following their triumph over North West University to put the icing on
the cake for the Academy, whose hard work and commitment have been
handsomely rewarded,” Chiefs noted.
AMAKHOSI added, “The team had won through to their respective finals
the previous day at the same venue, where Chiefs Under 13s and Under 17s
comfortably despatched their Joburg City counterparts before the Under
19s edged past TS Galaxy on penalties to progress to the final.”
The Club remarked, “Congratulations to the Youth Academy
administration, management, technical staff and players for your
outstanding accomplishment. You are providing a fertile breeding ground
for our young talent to develop into Amakhosi stars of the future.”
Meanwhile, Jessica Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs Marketing and Commercial
Director was elected as the First Deputy Chairperson of the African
Clubs Association at the ACA’s official launch in the Egyptian capital,
Cairo on Thursday last week.
Jessica will occupy this prestigious position for the next two years.
The Club said this is a remarkable acknowledgement of her unwavering
dedication and exemplary work in the football industry over the past 25
years.
Kaizer Chiefs Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung extended his heartfelt congratulations to Jessica on this well-deserved recognition.
He acknowledges her relentless efforts and commitment to the growth
and development of football in South Africa and on the African

It was an overwhelming moment for the Gogela family from Machinini
village in Mount Ayliff when they were surprisingly visited by Kaizer
Chiefs supporters from the Mount Ayliff branch Wednesday the 9th of
August with a lot of gifts such as food parcels, clothes, school uniform
and money.
Kaizer Chiefs Mount Ayliff supporters branch sports organizer Bandile
Mahamba says he saw the story on Cutting Edge then he came up with the
idea to visit the family with small gifts they could afford as a
branch.
“I was touched by the
way the mother told her situation especially when she touched the sad
part of losing her daughter Akhona Gogela who was the only one working
and I decided to come up with an idea for the branch and everyone loved
it and willingly contributed so many others even added more money for
the family” said Mahamba
He further says this is an ongoing initiative as they are planning to help more disadvantaged families in the region.
Nozi Mantshongo the community activist and ward 06 councillor under Umzimvubu Local Municipality
says the incident happened early last year 2022 after a huge rain.
There is no proper bridge in the village that perhaps could have saved
the Gogela’s breadwinner Akhona Gogela who drowned trying to cross from
work then later found dead.
“I am so happy and
grateful for what Kaizer Chiefs supporters have done for the community,
the situation will never be the same especially since the kids will have
proper school uniform and clothes to look good as from today,” said
Mantshongo
Kaizer
Chiefs, which is dubbed “The Biggest Club” in Southern Africa, is a
story to share for other clubs and brands on why supporters are key to
the prosperity of an organisation.
Chiefs since its founding on 7 January 1970 by Kaizer Motaung has grown to be the most decorated football club in South Africa.
Kaizer Chiefs, the most decorated club in South African football, have won more than 93 trophies.
The Gold-and-Black have won the League Championship 13, lifted the
National Cup on 13 occasions, with fifteen top 8 titles (The most by any
team in SA), have won the League Cup thirteen times and several
unofficial cups.
But what doesn’t often get mentioned, especially when relating the
prowess of the club, is the phenomenal contribution made by the Club’s
supporters in the past 53 years or so of the Club’s existence.
With various nicknames from AMAKHOSI, The Phefeni Glamour Boys and Abafana Bok’thula Noxolo.
The club’s motto of: LOVE & PEACE became the symbol of hope and inspiration during the dark days of the Apartheid Regime.
The Club became another example of what the Black community could
produce after the earlier football clubs like Orlando Pirates and Moroka
Swallows.
Chiefs also became a new home for those who didn’t identify with the
other clubs, or those who were left out of the political and social
spaces from 1970 onwards.
The club is also credited for bringing women supporters into the game
like never seen before and even today that is still very much the case.
The club notes, Amakhosi Family have, since the early days, organised
themselves into branches and today there are over 500 branches across
southern Africa.
According to Chiefs, “Branches are effectively the home from home for
our supporters as they are in essence a social club where people who
share a common interest and deep seated love for the team and meet and
engage about their passion.”
The supporters meet officially on a monthly basis guided by an agenda and minutes.
They develop plans for attending games, branch events and social
activities, outreach programmes to other branches, and raising funds for
Corporate Social Investments (CSI) activities.
The supporters also discuss Club related matters such as membership
cards, fighting counterfeit and supporting KC Retail, KC Mobile, and KC
Insurance.
The Amakhosi Magazine, KCTV and the branch newsletters information is
shared with all supporters at these forums and often debated in detail.
In addition, AMAKHOSI share, “Members provide a vital supporting
structure for each other and stand together through thick and thin, good
and bad, happy or sad. A branch supported funeral is a totally unique
and deeply respectful honour. Branches are run by passionate people who
are elected to the various portfolio for a three year term. They give
freely of their time and are not compensated for their effort and time
in any way.”
Moreover, all Branches within a regional demarcation elect a representative structure who in turn elect a provincial committee.
Each province has two seats on the National Executive Committee (NexCo) headed up by the National Strategic Advisor.
“The NexCo 2018 strategic vision supports that of the club in terms
of growing the support base across the full spectrum of our rainbow
nation, improving game attendance as well as unifying the stadium
experience – ‘with one voice’.
Education and capacity building within the structures are also key
focus points which are addressed through leadership programmes as well
as ensuring a gender balance at leadership levels,” adds AMAKHOSI
Kaizer Chiefs, the most decorated club in South African football, have won more than 93 trophies.
The Gold-and-Black have won the League Championship 13, lifted the
National Cup on 13 occasions, with fifteen top 8 titles (The most by any
team in SA), have won the League Cup thirteen times and several
unofficial cups.
Also Chiefs notes, “If you want to become part of a branch please
contact your provincial chairman or secretary who will be able to assist
you with Love & Peace.”
“With the largest supporter base in southern Africa, it is simply not
possible to get through even one day without spotting a Kaizer Chiefs
logo. The Amakhosi faithful wear their Gold and Black with love and
pride at every opportunity they get. They embrace the brand as a
lifestyle choice and the jersey and ‘peace’ hand-sign is our badge of
belonging and identity of who we are.
Our supporters are genuinely committed to the Club and indeed are an integral part of one big Family of Millions!
Our supporters’ say they are ‘Amakhosi 4 Life’. It is a very deep and
profound statement as it’s really a lifetime commitment, and that is
exactly how they feel about the Club, adds Chiefs.

Kaizer Chiefs express surprise over Barcelona’s strikingly similar new jersey

Kaizer
Chiefs have expressed their surprise that a new Barcelona jersey is so
strikingly similar to Amakhosi’s commemorative 50th anniversary jersey
released in January.
Chiefs’ marketing director, Jessica Motaung,
said the issue of Barca’s new black and gold Nike away jersey being an
almost exact replica of Chiefs’ strip compounded the disappointment the
Soweto giants had felt that so few of their 50th anniversary shirts had
been printed.
Chiefs’ commemorative jersey was released in early January and sold out in days.
The
clash with Barcelona’s new kit has seen Amakhosi supporters voice their
disgruntlement on the Catalan club’s Twitter posts launching the shirt.
“I’ve had several discussions with Nike about it,” Motaung told TimesLIVE.
“Look, we were actually very instrumental in the design of our 50th anniversary jersey.
“The
chairman [Kaizer Motaung] was very clear about the colours. Because if
you remember the chairman had a black jersey with gold that he wore many
years ago.
“They had the gold numbers and the things like that.
And that design was extremely club-inspired, and we were very specific.
Some of the designs that we received were not quite there, and we were
clear on the heritage and what we wanted.
“We
were very clear about the importance and magnitude of it, and that it
wasn’t a small milestone for us. And we loved what were arrived at, and I
appreciate the work that Nike has done.
“ I was made aware of the new Barcelona design before it hit the market, and I have to be honest we were surprised.
“Also
because of the major outcry for stock that we had [for the 50th
jersey]. It should have been produced for a market that was very excited
for a 50th jersey.
“But that said it’s a beautiful jersey and I hope that the gold and black does for Barcelona what it’s done for us.
“We
have a wonderful partnership with Nike, but in this instance we’re
slightly disappointed that we missed the opportunity to really take it
further with our supporters for our 50th at the level that we
anticipated, and also to leverage revenue.”
Motaung said
supporters can look forward to more 50th anniversary merchandise, and
also Amakhosi’s jersey for the 2020-21 season, being released soon.
Nike
SA communications manager Fareed Mohammed was reached for comment on
the matter on Friday, but said he could not produce a response by close
of business that afternoon.

How often do you hear about
the negative effects of excessive screen time and the dangers of social
media? We don’t always hear about the positive ways technology makes a
difference in our lives, especially when it comes to learning.
Technology in the classroom continues to level
the playing field by allowing students to learn to their full potential
in a way that suits their unique abilities. Even those with a slower
grasp of certain concepts are benefiting from this new wave concept in the education sector.
From
the creation and use of smartphones to tablets, we have seen how
technology has changed how students learn and teachers teach. Whether
it’s in classrooms or labs, we have seen how technology has made
learning more engaging and interactive, thanks to various innovations
that are being introduced in the education sector.
Technology
changes by the minute, and preparing students for this ever-changing
world is very important. In keeping with this, significant investments
have been made to improve education, and now many schools can access
digital resources to support the educational process. Technology’s
impact on today’s educational system has been quite significant, and it
has completely changed how teachers teach, and students learn.
What are the most creative ways technology enhances education and makes the learning process more engaging?
Technology
offers an easy and fun way to engage students in the learning process,
through tools such as interactive whiteboards. Students can watch
instructional videos or short movies, and teachers can make the most
interactive elements available through images, animations, and games.
Digital
games can communicate new material, make learning more fun, and make it
easier for students with a disability or special needs to participate.
By tapping into students’ competitiveness, they can also encourage
students to work harder than they otherwise might.
2.
Virtual tools can spark creativity and imagination for students by
giving them the ability to experiment with different ideas without
having any limits, such as materials, time, or any other barriers. Set
up a Google Cardboard which allows
students to experience VR in a fun, simple, affordable way. It’s a
cardboard box in which the user only needs to insert a smartphone into
the viewer to play immersive virtual reality games and let students explore the idea of what it would be like to fly or drive.
Most
math, science, and engineering concepts are not easy to understand
without visual aids. Virtual models and simulations help teachers
explain complex ideas. This mainly works well if the students are those
who learn best by tactile or visual methods.
3. Google created a Classroom
management resource – a tool that allows teachers to create classes,
distribute and mark assignments, send feedback, and see everything in
one place. It has been designed to be engaging and offer options for
students of all levels.
Students can continue learning their material if a teacher is absent or if their school has days off for weather events. Online
editing collaboration tools for online learning, such as Google Docs,
allow two or more students to work on their own pieces simultaneously,
creating an engaging atmosphere for discussion and feedback.
Technology is an amazing educational resource that will help teachers and students realize their true potential. The promise
of educational technology lies in what educators do with it and how it
is used to best support their students’ needs. This is why we have transformed
our online safety education from Ilizwe Lam into an innovative WhatsApp
learning bot called Kitso (Knowledge) that caters to teachers and
parents.
Kitso supports
your learning plan by empowering parents and teachers with the skills
they need to teach their students how to spot fake news on WhatsApp,
stay safe online, and so much more.
