I'm confident the economy will bounce back to normal with God's help - Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has called on the Church to pray for Ghana, himself and his administration to surmount the current economic challenges confronting the nation.

“I plead strongly with the church to bear the nation and me continually up in prayers. As God’s children, we may be tempted to allow struggles to define our worth. However, our ultimate victory is guaranteed. We may stumble along the way, but we will always be more than conquerors,” he said.

The president made the call at a Special New year Eucharist Service held on his behalf by the Archbishops, Bishops, and Clergy of the Anglican Church of Ghana at the Jubilee House Accra on Tuesday.

Prayers were offered for the President and his family, the Vice President, the government, and for peace and tranquility to prevail in the country, and for Ghanaians to have the patience to support the government as it sought solutions to take the country out of the current economic crisis.

The Special Mass was attended by the First lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, and some senior government officials.

President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that he was confident that Ghana’s economy would bounce back stronger in 2023.

He reiterated his belief “that with the spirit of fairness hard work, integrity and reconciliation, the best days of Ghana lie ahead of us.”

“Even though we are presently confronted with difficulties in economic performance, I do not doubt our collective resolve to work our way out of these challenges and put our nation back onto the path of progress and prosperity,” he said.

Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop, Most Rev. Dr Cyril Kobina Ben-Smith, of the Anglican Communion, Internal Province of Ghana, in his homily, themed “New Mercies, New Love and New Hope for Ghana,” said God’s love for Ghana remained sure and rang true.

“Your excellency, we wish to assure the government and the people of Ghana that God’s faithfulness remains sure for our nations. Despite the challenges and the times that the world finds itself, God’s promises still ring true, His mercies are new every morning.

“God is still God. Let all the people of Ghana know that God is still God, and He directs all our affairs and we should bless the Lord in all circumstances despite our challenges.”

The Primate said the building of the National Cathedral was enough testimony of President Akufo-Addo’s devotion to God and “no matter the Naysays, it will happen”

“Your excellency, you and other world leaders, King David faced the same challenges that we are still experiencing…the murmuring of the people, the lamentations from the crowds, the abuse and lack of understanding of the issues that are clear to all, yet David stood resolute in his conviction amid opposition.

“The God of Ghana is our refuge, let us keep faith with our President in all times. Ghana will not perish; Ghana will recover, and Ghana will reclaim every lost territory. I entreat all Ghanaians to pray for Ghana and for favour for the leadership of the nation.

“Let the people of Ghana understand that with God all things are possible. If we trust Him, the economy will bounce back,” he said.

He urged market women, traders, commercial drivers and businesspeople to complement the efforts of the Government by reducing the process of goods and services.

CALLING ON GOD

The Guardian publisher urges security consciousness, trust in God

Ubani blames bad leadership for Nigeria’s woes

Publisher of The Guardian Newspapers, Lady Maiden Alex-Ibru has called on Nigerians to be more security-conscious in the face of different challenges confronting the country and, above all, trust God for their maximum protection.

She added that Nigerians should be very conscious of the choice of leadership and never to be biased in the coming elections, as she prayed God to take over the country’s leadership.

The publisher spoke as a Special Guest of Honour yesterday at the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Founder’s Day Lecture and Awards with the theme, ‘Credible Elections: A Desired Paradigm Shift and Pathway to Responsible Governance’, which held at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

Guest Speaker at the occasion, Monday Ubani, narrowed down the problem of moving the country forward to bad leadership, as Nigeria has been unlucky to be consistently run by bad leaders who are greedy and unpatriotic, turning the country to their personal property.

He cited the Naira redesign policy, which has brought untold sufferings to Nigerians, adding that any policy, no matter the intention, that brings suffering on the governed, could only be made by bad leaders, who are not concerned about the citizenry.

The human rights activist called on Nigerians to leverage the Electoral Act that has made some innovative provisions in terms of deployment of technology in the electoral process.

He charged Nigerians to also improve the human factor by changing their parameters in the choice of their leaders, which had been dictated by primordial sentiments.

The President and Board Chairman, BSN, Bishop Timothy Banwo, said for the country to move forward, Nigerians should elevate the God factor and believe in the Bible.

General Secretary/CEO of BSN, Samuel Sanusi, said the event was organised to remember the good works done over the years by the founders of BSN and to award people who have done well in their works, as he solicited assistance to spread the Bible across the various languages in Nigeria.

MIRACLE FROM TURKEY

Video: Christian Atsu’s family sings praises to God after footballer’s rescue

The family house of Christian Atsu was overtaken by joy following news that the footballer has been pulled out of a rubble caused by the earthquake in Turkey.

On Monday, it emerged that the 31-year-old winger had been trapped in the rubble after a devastating earthquake hit the country.

Atsu, who currently plays for Turkish side Hatayspor, had been trapped under the rubble together with the club’s sporting director Taner Savut.

However, after hours of searching for the duo, it was confirmed on Tuesday morning that the Ghanaian has finally been found alive and is receiving treatment at a hospital.

A visit to the footballer’s family house in Accra by sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah showed the ecstasy with which they received the news of his rescue.

In a video shared on YouTube, the Peace FM head of sports spoke to Atsu's senior brother and other members of his family, who were captured singing praises to God for rescuing their kin.

The footballer’s senior brother Isaac Yeye Twasam said: "The entire nation backed us in prayers so I knew God will deliver my brother. Although we heard the news, we wanted to confirm it from the club. So I called the agent and we kept in touch."

Atsu’s aunty, Mama Comfort, also added: “We’ve been unable to sleep, I have been praying. Everyone has been calling from friends to church members. His brother informed me that he has been found at dawn. I want to thank Ghanaians for their love and support. They have been more than a family.”

Meanwhile, Atsu sustained some injuries after being rescued from the rubble that he was trapped in for over 24 hours.

This was confirmed by Hatayspor manager Mustafa Özat, who said the club’s sporting director was, however, yet to be found.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also reported earlier that the Ghanaian winger was having difficulties with breathing after being rescued.

“Christian Atsu has been found alive and has now been rescued from the rubble and transported to hospital after suffering injuries to his right foot and suffering from breathing difficulties. Stay strong, Chris!” Romano wrote on Facebook.

How This NFL Star Found God Through Injury

By Movieguide® Contributor

NFL star Bryant Young recently shared how a career-threatening injury caused him to turn to God.

“Toward the beginning of my career, in 1998 to be exact, I had a very severe injury,” Bryant shared in a Sports Spectrum interview. “Here I am flat on my back, and I was in so much pain. It was a wake-up call for me, and it was that God moment where God had my attention.”

“There was nothing I could do. I couldn’t run, I couldn’t escape, I couldn’t do anything physically, and God just really started to speak into my heart,” he added.

For Bryant, spiritual growth came from the people God put in his life, and he emphasized the importance of being open with others.

“At that time, God strategically placed awesome people, God-fearing godly men in my life that really challenged me to grow in a very unique way.”

“There were times where I didn’t invite those relationships, or I put up that curtain and that facade,” he explained. “But God really challenged me to begin to tear down those walls and allow people to see the real me and my brokenness and be authentic and be vulnerable in those moments.”

Bryant continued to seek God, and “It became very real in that relationship as God continued to speak my life and as those men began to challenge me.”

“My relationship with Christ became very real,” he concluded.

The former San Fransisco 49ers defensive lineman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022.

Absa donates running shoes to township running club ahead of Absa Cape Town 12K CITYRUN

CAPE TOWN, 19 November: Ahead of the Absa sponsored RUN YOUR CITY Series, the Proudly Pan-African bank, Absa, partnered with the Langa Running Club as part of their role in society strategy to create a meaningful impact and develop communities it operates in. The purpose-led bank hosted a brief handover of much needed running apparel to athletes from the running club in the township of KwaLanga, outside of Cape Town.

“Absa prides itself in making possibilities come to life and as part of the Absa Cape Town 12K CITYRUN, we wanted to empower runners with assets they need to achieve their performance goals. The Langa Running club has 380 members and our ambition is to see every member of this club participate in the next Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series and hopefully represent the country in this sport in the future,” says John

Langa Running Club Chairman, Aubrey Isaacs, is elated by the visit from the bank and mentioned that it augurs well for the development of running in the township.

ASA president James Moloi

“Many of our club members are juniors who still have a long way to go in the sport of running. This gesture by Absa will inspire not only them but their peers to take the sport seriously and use it to better their lives,” he said.

“We would also like to thank Absa for donating running shoes to our four elite lady athletes who will be taking part in this weekend’s Absa Cape Town 12K CITYRUN, the impact that such a donation has on a township club goes a long way in boosting their confidence and hopefully they will deliver some stellar results this weekend,” he added.

The Absa Cape Town 12K CITYRUN will take place this coming Sunday 21 November from the Woodbridge Bus station until the Cape Town CBD. For more Information go to https://www.thecapetown12.com.
