Legend Reveals Barker’s Secret To Bafana Success

Edward Motale Explains Why Clive Barker Succeeded With Bafana

By Soccer Laduma - Sep 12, 2016 08:38 AM

2
Former Bafana Bafana defender, Edward Motale, has revealed how Clive Barker managed to achieve success when in charge of the national team.
Barker was in charge of the national team between 1994 and 1997, cementing his place in history when Bafana claimed their first and only Africa Cup of Nations title in 1996 and Motale has revealed the secret to his former mentor’s success.
“What Clive Barker got right as Bafana coach was that he selected players that were on form; those who were consistent that were playing every day, week in and week out, those who were putting in the effort. It was either that you were doing so locally or internationally,” he explained to Soccer Laduma.
The 50-year-old pointed to examples such as Cape Town City coach, Eric Tinkler and the late Shoes Moshoeu to prove his point.
“You can look at (Eric) Tinkler, he was playing every game overseas, Shoes (Moshoeu) was playing every game in Turkey. And, on this side, we were consistently playing every game,” he added. “But there were players that were just on form like Brendan Augustine who was playing for Bush Bucks and was scoring every game. He was on form then and then we used the likes of the late Sizwe (Motaung) who was also on form. So those were the elements that he used, that’s where we had a nice combination.”

New programme to make learning fun

> Thandisizwe Mgudlwa

Evidence shows that a play-based approach to learning allows children to better understand mathematical and language concepts.

This further allows them to be creative, solution-oriented learners who are prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

Implemented by the Department of Basic Education in partnership with UNICEF, the LEGO Foundation and Cotlands Learning Around You is an innovative online training, accredited with the South African Council of Educators (SACE).

The programme will equip 150,000 professionals to effectively implement play-based learning based on the National Curriculum Framework.

The initial testing phase has been completed and the programme went live some days ago.

The Council for Education Ministers (CEM) launched this free P.L.A.Y. online in-service training programme, with the aim to provide in-service training to 42,000 early childhood development practitioners, 23,000 Grade R educators and 85,000 Grade 1 to 3 educators over the next two years.

Highlighting the involvement of government, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said the foundations laid in the early learning and the foundation phase through play, will have an impact on the schooling careers of children up to matric and beyond.

Play is learning in the early years, and the starting point for future engineers, doctors, teachers, amongst others.

“This model of in-service training that we are launching today has all the potential to be a game changer in the manner in which the we can shape a large part of in-service training programme to reach all educators – even in the most remote areas,” said Dr Mamiki Maboya, Deputy Director-General for Curriculum Policy, Support and Monitoring at the Department of Basic Education.

The programme requires an online registration that can be done through any mobile device or computer, which is then followed by a five hour face-to-face orientation session.

These will be conducted throughout the country, utilising, amongst others, the Department of Basic Education’s Teacher Development Centres as resources.

This will be followed by online training that will include theory, practice and assessment.

Upon completion, the trainees will receive a certificate that will earn them Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) points from SACE thus linking it to formal recognition and professional development.

Still few African cities meet world quality standards

> Thandisizwe Mgudlwa

African government's and their stakeholders must be very concerned and bothered by the fact that only a hand full of African countries have made it to the top 100 city's with a high standard of living global  survey.

At least five African cities which are also economic hives in their countries have made it to the list of the 100 Mercer's top 100 world’s highest quality of living destinations.

This is Mercer's 19th Quality of Living ranking. Mercer produces worldwide quality-of-living rankings annually from its Worldwide Quality of Living Surveys and individual reports are produced for each city surveyed.

The three South African cities that have made the top 100 are Durban (87) ranked the highest for quality of living within South Africa, which followed by Cape Town (94) and Johannesburg (96).

While the other two African countries in the top 100 include Port Louis, in Mauritius, which tops Africa chart at 84th spot and Port Louis is also the only Africa city which made it to top 100 rankings within the category of highest for infrastructure in 94th place.

The study further notes that despite increased political and financial volatility in South Africa. "Its cities fell within the top 100 of the world’s highest quality of living and remain attractive destinations for expanding business operations and sending expatriates on assignment, according to Mercer’s19th annual."

Ilya Bonic, senior partner and president of Mercer’s Career business, commented “Economic instability, social unrest, and growing political upheaval all add to the complex challenge multinational companies face when analysing quality of living for their expatriate workforce,” said Bonic,“For multinationals and governments it is vital to have quality of living information that is accurate, detailed, and reliable. It not only enables these employers to compensate employees appropriately, but it also provides a planning benchmark and insights into the often-sensitive operational environment that surrounds their workforce.

“In uncertain times, organisations that plan to establish themselves and send staff to a new location should ensure they get a complete picture of the city, including its viability as a business location and its attractiveness to key talent,” Mr Bonic added.

Meanwhile, Vienna occupies first place for overall quality of living for the 8th year running, with the rest of the top-ten list mostly filled by European cities: Zurich is in second place, with Munich (4), Dusseldorf (6), Frankfurt (7), Geneva (8), Copenhagen (9), and Basel, a newcomer to the list, in 10th place. The only non-European cities in the top ten are Auckland (3) and Vancouver (5). The highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America are Singapore (25) and Montevideo (79), respectively.

Mercer’s survey also includes a city infrastructure ranking that assesses each city’s supply of electricity, drinking water, telephone and mail services, and public transportation as well as traffic congestion and the range of international flights available from local airports. Singapore tops the city infrastructure ranking, followed by Frankfurt and Munich both in 2nd place. Baghdad (230) and Port au Prince (231) rank last for city infrastructure.

Mercer’s authoritative survey is one of the world’s most comprehensive and is conducted annually to enable multinational companies and other organisations to compensate employees fairly when placing them on international assignments. In addition to valuable data, Mercer’s Quality of Living surveys provide hardship premium recommendations for over 450 cities throughout the world; this year’s ranking includes 231 of these cities, revealed the survey.

Slagin Parakatil, Principal at Mercer and responsible for its quality of living research said, “The success of foreign assignments is influenced by issues such as ease of travel and communication, sanitation standards, personal safety, and access to public services,” notes Parakatil,  “Multinational companies need accurate and timely information to help calculate fair and consistent expatriate compensation – a real challenge in locations with a compromised quality of living.”

Parakatil added, “A city’s infrastructure, or rather the lack thereof, can considerably affect the quality of living that expatriates and their families experience on a daily basis. Access to a variety of transport options, being connected locally and internationally, and access to electricity and drinkable water are among the essential needs of expatriates arriving in a new location on assignment. A well-developed infrastructure can also be a key competitive advantage for cities and municipalities trying to attract multinational companies, talent, and foreign investments.”

Dubai (74) continues to rank highest for quality of living across the Middle East, rising one position in this year’s ranking, followed closely by Abu Dhabi (79), which climbed three spots. Damascus (225) in Syria, Sana’a (229) in Yemen and Baghdad (231) in Iraq are the region’s three lowest-ranked cities for quality of living.

“Cities that rank high in the city infrastructure list provide a combination of top-notch local and international airport facilities, varied and extended coverage through their local transportation networks, and innovative solutions such as smart technology and alternative energy,” added Parakatil. “Most cities now align variety, reliability, technology, and sustainability when designing infrastructure for the future.”

In North America, Canadian cities took the top positions in the ranking. Vancouver (5) is again the region’s highest ranking city for quality of living. Toronto and Ottawa follow in 16th and 18th place respectively, whereas San Francisco (29) is the highest ranking US city, followed by Boston (35), Honolulu (36), New York (44), and Seattle (45). High crime rates in Los Angeles (58) and Chicago (47) resulted in these cities dropping nine and four places respectively. Monterrey (110) is the highest ranking city in Mexico, while the country’s capital, Mexico City, stands in 128th position. In South America, Montevideo (79) ranks highest for quality of living, followed by Buenos Aires (93) and Santiago (95). La Paz (157) and Caracas (189) are the lowest ranking cities in the region, according to the report.

Moreover, the study reports, "comparative quality-of-living indexes between a base city and host city are available, as are multiple-city comparisons.
The data was largely analysed between September and November 2016, and it will be updated regularly to account for changing circumstances. In particular, the assessments will be revised to reflect significant political, economic, and environmental developments. The list of rankings is provided to media for reference, and should not be published in full. The top 10 and bottom 10 cities in either list may be reproduced in a table.

The information and data obtained through the Quality of Living reports are for information purposes only and are intended for use by multinational organisations, government agencies, and municipalities. They are not designed or intended for use as the basis for foreign investment or tourism. In no event will Mercer be liable for any decision made or action taken in reliance of the results obtained through the use of, or the information or data contained in, the reports. While the reports have been prepared based upon sources, information, and systems believed to be reliable and accurate, they are provided on an “as-is” basis, and Mercer accepts no responsibility/liability for the validity/accuracy (or otherwise) of the resources/data used to compile the reports. Mercer and its affiliates make no representations or warranties with respect to the reports, and disclaim all express, implied and statutory warranties of any kind, including, representations and implied warranties of quality, accuracy, timeliness, completeness, merchantability, and fitness for a particular purpose.

Companies need to determine expatriate compensation packages rationally, consistently, and systematically using reliable data. Providing incentives to reward and recognise the effort that employees and their families make when taking on international assignments remains a typical practice, particularly for difficult locations.

Two common incentives include a quality-of-living allowance and a mobility premium, a quality-of-living or “hardship” allowance compensates for a decrease in the quality of living between home and host locations; a mobility premium simply compensates for the inconvenience of being uprooted and having to work in another country.

A quality-of-living allowance is typically location-related, while a mobility premium is usually independent of the host location. Some multinational companies combine these premiums, but the vast majority provides them separately."

More broadly, "Mercer also helps municipalities to assess factors that can improve their quality of living rankings. In a global environment, employers have many choices about where to deploy their mobile employees and set up new business. A city’s quality of living can be an important variable for employers to consider.

Leaders in many cities want to understand the specific factors that affect their residents’ quality of living and address those issues that lower a city’s overall quality-of-living ranking. Mercer advises municipalities by using a holistic approach that addresses the goals of progressing towards excellence and attracting both multinational companies and globally mobile talent by improving the elements that are measured in its Quality of Living survey, " Mercer further reveals.

Remarks by President Jacob Zuma, at the National Teaching Awards Ceremony, Gallagher Convention Centre, Johannesburg

By Jacob Zuma

It is heart-warming to join you at this very important event in the Basic Education calendar.

We get together annually to announce the winners of the National Teaching Awards.

The Awards afford an opportunity to celebrate hard work and excellence among our teachers.

What excites me this evening, is that the 17th National Teaching Awards finalists come from all economic, racial and geographical backgrounds, including deep rural areas.

We are particularly pleased with the success of teachers from public schools.
You have demonstrated that excellence in public schooling is a reality in our schools.

This event also recognises school managers who play a pivotal role in ensuring the health of a school.

This year, Government has declared 2017 as the year of OR Tambo in commemoration of the centenary of the birth of former ANC leader, President Oliver Tambo.

President Tambo was a Mathematics and Physical Science teacher and later became a lawyer.

Today we honour OR Tambo in a special manner when we reward teachers who are performing well.

Compatriots

As we celebrate the 17th National Teachers Awards, we also think of the social ills that must be rooted out from our schools.
First, is corporal punishment. It is shocking that regardless of the outlawing of this barbaric form of punishment in schools, we still hear of cases where learners have been severely beaten by teachers. Some have been reported to have lost their lives. We condemn the beating of children in schools. It is unlawful and action will be taken against teachers who break the law and violate the dignity and personal safety of children.
The problem of teenage pregnancies continues, indicating that we are failing somewhere as parents and teachers, in guiding and teaching our youth.
We also still have serious cases of crime in our schools such as gang violence, drug use and alcohol abuse. We also have cases of bullying in some schools which have a negative impact on our children.

We must not give up and must continue working together to eliminate these social ills and protect our children.

Let us continue to guide them and lead them on the right path, working with them. We must build a better future for our children together.

Let me also take this opportunity to appreciate and acknowledge the hard work done by all stakeholders in education.

You contribute immensely to providing meaningful and quality education in the sector.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We congratulate all our hard working teachers for striving to make our schools centres of excellence.

They are setting a good example and will inspire all other teachers and our learners as well.

Esteemed guests,

These awards are also special as they take place during a year in which we mark one hundred and twenty years since the composition of the first stanza of Nkosi Sikelel’iAfrika by Enock Sontonga.

This moving hymn carries the emotions and history of our people. Today we shall celebrate this milestone with a special rendition of the anthem by Mpilisweni Secondary School from Kathlehong.

This rendition will add a special meaning to these awards as it reminds us of where we come from.

It will certainly inspire our teachers and learners to move South Africa forward to prosperity. The performance also celebrates OR Tambo who loved choral music very much. We look forward to the performance of the choir.

Congratulations to all our outstanding achievers!

You have made South Africa proud! I thank you.

Les Brown International

Les Brown here,

Today, I’m sending you a short message to really make you think…

Have you ever just stopped and asked yourself: “What’s my purpose in life?”

Too many times we spend hours every day worrying, stressing and putting our attention only on the “what if this happens, what if that happens?”

We live in fear.

Many times, we don’t even know what we’re afraid of. We just live in fear.

Rather, I want you to take the same time and I want you to invest it in asking yourself what your purpose is. Who do you really want to be?

How can you live today so that you are living the life of your dreams.

No matter what, I can tell you one thing

“You are here to live your purpose. Search your mind and follow your heart. Be willing to make a radical change in order to live your dream. It takes courage to pursue a life that is calling you. Answer the call.”

I have no doubt that you have an amazing purpose. I have no doubt that you have the ability to live that purpose.

The only thing you need to be prepared for is making a radical change so that purpose can come to life.

You have something special - you have greatness within you.

With love,

Les Brown

Family Business Model: Can Become The Business of The 21st Century

The concept of a Family Business is one that is seriously underrated.
But the truth is that, it is the most viable business venture that the ordinary folk on the street is likely to succeed in. Some people may nit know that Coke started out as a family business. Loot at where it is to day. It is in the most famous and best brands of all time. With high rates of unemployment facing many nations across the globe. The prospects of many people finding job security today including academic graduates; and the masses in particular, are zero to none. Even the option of investing in a career in the corporate world and in other sectors has been proven many a times, to be an opportunity that will be enjoyed by a privileged few. The world of work has enormously changed to what is was say 30 years ago. However, not all is lost. With the advent of the Internet the world has become smaller. It has become easier today to run businesses online and offline. Other people first run a business online. The they start it offline as well. And other they do the opposite and start it offline, then go online. And on top of that, the E-commerce space, the digital economy and then you have one hell of an era. The knowledge economy has revolutionized our world. Many can be made 24/7. But for some reasons. Many people have let this opportunities to change their current financial struggles continue. Their goals and dreams go to waste without giving themselves a chance a better life. Competitions for jobs which involves recruitment agencies, overseas cheap labour, automation to name but a few factors hindering many people's changes of finding decent employment. It is based on those hindering factors that the Family Business model come into play. The Family Business venture is clearly a game changer for many in Africa and elsewhere. The business is modeled on various fronts. It is mostly a business that involves people possibly love, care and who want the best for each other. That is what family should be and must be. They are family after all Of course this is not always the case. But again, the same can be said about the corporate world and other sectors. The family unit, this is what everyone should and must strive for. To rebuild the family unit for the development of out communities, city, countries, regions, continents and the world at large. Business statistics around the the world confirm that out of every 10 companies that exist, only one will succeed in a period of less that 10 years. Some companies close down within three years and others follow suit soon after that. Many reasons are given for the failures of these companies, ranging from poor branding & marketing; low quality of the products and services; poor cash flow management, no and lack of proper bookkeeping, lack of quality well trained and so on and so forth. Be that as it may, the problem of joblessness remains a biting one for many governments and countries. Violent protests, marches and civil unrest are the order of the day when government's fail to create a conducive environment for economic grow and development to occur. And jobs can not be created on scale demanded by the unemployment rates. Social grants become some government's weapon in dealing with unemployment. Bu this too, is proving to be not the solution as the masses wreck havoc in many poorly managed countries in Africa and many developing countries, due to poverty. It is on that note the the Family Business model must be used as an alternative. The model involves people who are emotionally attached to each other. Many times they biologically connected. It involves people who live with one another and share spaces, resources and experiences. The Family Business model, provides dysfunctional and even broken families an opportunity at fixing their families. It allows people to come together and help each other out to achieve their yet unreached goals and dreams. This is a model that gives family members another chance at prosperity. It is a business that gives family members a new sense of purpose and meaning in their lives. Everyday becomes an opportunity to build the Family Business and to create a stable family fabric based on sound values, principles and ideals. With different set of skills, resources and networks, family members have an opportunity to create corporations that can severely uplift the family and can also create opportunities for other people outside the family, including job creation. The model offers families the opportunity to create a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) in their communities and other areas. Part of the model involves servicing the community in various ways. It could be cleaning the streets and that's promoting environmental awareness. It could be by adopting a school and assisting that school in finding whatever it needs to be a world class learning institution. The great thing about the Family Business model is that it can easily and manageably be based on various ventures including selling different products and providing a wide variety of services. Some family members may be involved in the venture on a part-time basis, while others can be involved on full-time basis. People must be given the freedom to choose. Some members may have jobs and/or be involved in other activities that keep them away from the Family Business a lot of the time. But they may have a genuine desire for the venture to prosper. At times they may even be the most sincere, committed, and even the biggest contribution to the venture even though they are involved elsewhere. A Family Business Strategic Plan with clear set out vision, mission, goals and objectives of the venture with time-frames will arrest any complications that negatively affect the Family Business. Their involvement elsewhere needs to be seen as an asset as they could be marketing the venture and acquiring skills, knowledge and resources to plough back into the Family Business. Of out-most importance, is the nature of the Family venture. Who should do what? When? How/ Why? Or the guidelines of the venture. This is one area that needs many compromises from all family members. As people have different goals, dreams, ideas, wants and don't wants, for the Family Business venture to succeed, family members must be considerate on what other members of the family aspire for. In other words, the venture can not be based on forcing things on people. It can not be oppressive on anyone. If people want to pull out of the business they must be allowed to do so with out any ill feelings towards them. People must have an opportunity to express their views and call for help and if and when the need arises. A system of rules and regulation is highly is a must to allow order and direction. It is highly non-negotiable that all family members must understand and accept the rules and regulations of the venture, as without the rules and regulations, unnecessary crises and fights are likely to occur and threaten the survival and success of the family enterprise. The family members need to do a thorough market research on what is the best business or businesses which get match the skills, education and resources they possess. Closer to home in the example of Kaizer Chiefs, which is another successful family business. Founded in Soweto, South West of Johannesburg, on the 7th January 1970 by Kaizer Motaung and a group of fellow soccer lovers, the club is now a family business owned by the Motaungs. With a revenue of $25 mil. – $50 milllion, Kaizer Chiefs employs 100-250 people. The Club falls under the Industry of Sports Teams & Leagues, Hospitality. As a special part of the Kaizer Chiefs family, being a card carrying member of the Amakhosi Supporters Club means you get to enjoy a whole host of incredible benefits from insurance, retail among others. With Hollard Insurance, the Clubs Insurance products include the Kaizer Chiefs Funeral Plan and Kaizer Chiefs Hospital Cash Back Plan which offer the opportunity to rest assured that a family is adequately covered in time of need. In February 2005 it was announced that Motaung would join the board of Primedia Limited as a non-executive director. Primedia is South Africa’s largest private media holding company and owns 40% of Kaizer Chiefs. Through good business acumen Kaizer Chiefs bought back the 40% stake from Primedia in 2012. Matuang has also served as a director on the boards of many other companies such as Royal Beechnut, Simba, New Age Beverages and Get Ahead. Other most successful ideas on what kind of a Family Business people can do would include buying and selling, livestock farming, agribusiness farming, real estate property, vehicles or big equipment, events & party equipment, multi-level marketing. Education and training in business course and seminars is a must do for success. It must be ongoing with reading of business books and other material. With on-going communication, support for each other, mentoring and coaching the sky is the limit in the Family Business world.

TVET college certificates backlog being cleared, says department

Major steps have been taken to clear the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) examination results and certificates backlog, the Department of Higher Education and Training said on Thursday, 9 March 2017.
TVET college certificates backlog being cleared, says department
© rawpixel – 123RF.com
The certificates backlog has compromised prospects for employment or further education for many graduates and has raised questions about the quality of SA's college sector.

The number of outstanding certificates has been reduced significantly from the 236,821 recorded in August 2015, to 29,583. The department said the issuing of outstanding certificates was being hampered by data problems at TVET colleges. These included data-capturing errors, authentication of identity numbers and other personal information, said department spokesman Madikwe Mabotha.

He said TVET college principals had been engaged in a process to validate and confirm all preliminary examination data from the examination centres.

The problems besetting the sector are likely to hamper the government's efforts to make colleges an attractive education choice as part of its plan to ease pressure on universities.

Mabotha said more than 2-million subject results for the November 2016 exams had been processed and released. The final outstanding and pending results were released to TVET colleges earlier in March.

"This means that all outstanding November 2016 results have now been released.

"In addition, a further 450 subject results that were suspended due to suspicions of acts of dishonesty have also been cleared following thorough investigations. These results will be processed and released within a week," said Mabotha.

Working together

The department would continue to work closely with college principals to ensure data capturing challenges, which had contributed to many of the delays in the past, were immediately resolved, he said.

Mabotha said principals would be required to validate all preliminary examination data prior to submission.

"The department acknowledges the key role played by both the State Information Technology Agency [Sita] and the quality assurer, Umalusi, in ensuring the speedy finalisation of the results for the November 2016 examinations," he said.

Sita, which is responsible for issuing certificates, has previously blamed the backlog on outdated IT systems not aligned to diploma and exam rules introduced in 2010.

TVET successes

Meanwhile, during a question and answer session in Parliament on Thursday, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa said TVET colleges were beginning to record "great successes balancing theory and practicals".

"We are seeing a great improvement in the take-up of artisan training among young people, particularly those who go to TVET colleges," he said.

Ramaphosa said the government was finalising an agreement with the private sector that would see as many as 1-million youths being offered paid internships in companies.

Industrialisation of mining industry a crucial focus area for Africa

> Thandisizwe Mgudlwa
"The African mining industry needs to explore innovative ways to improve productivity, competitiveness, and profitability to propel the continent into industrialisation."

Dr Markus Thill, president of Bosch’s Africa region, says that by making the mining industry more profitable, economic growth can be furthered.

He notes, "Eventually, this would have positive effects also on education and skills development.

History has shown that the introduction of new, modern technologies creates opportunities for high-paying jobs as demand for skilled workers increases substantially. The depletion of coal resources in Europe led to the First Industrial Revolution and the use of steam power was to mechanise production. Such profound changes usually create concerns among people."

However, as the example of the First Industrial Revolution shows, transformation processes very often bear opportunities. Here, productivity increased which led to the creation of high-paying jobs and the generation of new industrial wealth,” he says.

Global research reveals, "The introduction of modern mining techniques and technologies in many instances, retrofitting old mines with new technologies boosts productivity, reduces costs, and leads to improvements in safety when mining for resources."

Economists also add, "While Africa has improved electricity supplies. cost-effective and reliable energy remains a key challenge for mining and industrial companies.

The mining industry has also made significant strides in reducing mining-related accidents and fatalities. This is thanks to regulators and industry stakeholders that have stepped in to address the challenge.

While industry stakeholders and experts commend the implementation of regulatory measures to tackle the challenge, there is also apprehension about overregulation, which increases the cost of mining in Africa.

“Harnessing that power will require investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure that electricity gets to as many customers, in particular industrial and commercial end-users, as possible,” concludes Dr Thill.

The #1 Way To Change Your Life..

...is to take ACTION.

You know, I've traveled the WORLD. I've met and helped millions of students. I've personally spoken (one on one to easily over 100,000 incredible people) - all looking to change their lives.

It's my life's passion to dive into the minds of others and help whoever I can!

However, it pains me to always see one overwhelming factor in many of the students I coach.

LACK of ACTION.

It's easy to say what we want.  It's easy to dream about what we want. It's even easier to blame others for what we don't have. And the easiest...is to sit around and wait for someone to hand it to us.

Well, starting today, we're going to change that - together. Right?

You're now an action-taker. Period.

As an action taker, I have to ask you - have you gone and downloaded my Free Mini-Book: "7 Steps To Control YourFinancial Destiny..." (http://financialdestiny.org/freebook)

Not only downloaded, but have you ready it - cover to cover, not just once, but twice.

=> Download The 7 Secrets To Taking Control of YourFinancial Destiny (http://financialdestiny.org/freebook)

Do it now. Seriously - do not wait for someone to do it for you!

Next, I want to HEAR from you if you have actually read my book (or watched the VIDEO version). I want to hear yourthoughts, your remarks. I want to hear where you will take more action now!

This is your first test as an action taker?  What's it going to be?  Will you rise to the challenge, let's see! Always remember one thing. You’ve got greatness within you. I know it. I’ve seen it.

Now, it’s time for us to show it to the World. "Hey, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it."

With love,

Les Brown

NORMBOND & Associates: App Promotes Black Trade, Commerce and Social Mobile Network

Hi

So today I want to drop this on you…
The African American community has a staggering national unemployment rate of 34%, and a parallel youth national unemployment rate of 57%.

There are more than 2-million unemployed Black folks in America. These are epidemic level numbers. And a “jobless recovery” means that very little will be done to create change.

It’s well known that poverty is an economic problem that devastates families, communities and entire societies. But what are we doing to address these systemic issues in bold new ways?

BlackTradeLines is a company that uses digital technology to empower African American businesses. They have developed an app — that is much more than a Black business directory. The mobile application is designed to help users locate the nearest Black-owned businesses, deals, events and activities close to them.

In addition, the mission behind the company is to help to get the Black dollar to circulate within your local community and globally.

They have created a "referral program that pays you $5" when a business owner in your network downloads the app.
They also pay you a smaller amount (.05) when an individual you recommend downloads the app.

3 Simple Ways to Reach Millions of Customers on Their Mobile Devices

selfies and mobile marketing opportunities Mobile devices from Samsung, Apple, Sony, Microsoft, Google and others are experiencing explosive growth. You can't go far without seeing someone on an iPhone, Android, iPad or some other handheld gadget. Not only has technology changed -- the way we communicate as a society has changed.

In just a few short years we have seen people also change the way in which they prefer to access the Internet. Mobile devices have overtaken desktop and laptop computers as the primary vehicle for "going online".

For business owners, entrepreneurs and anyone seeking to reach a targeted audience this sea change has a huge impact. It is more important than ever that you adjust your online marketing plan to meet the needs of  today's mobile consumer.
Let me share with you three simple ways that you can reach millions of people via their mobile devices.

SMS Messaging

consumers prefer to go online with mobile
SMS (Short Message Service), or text messages is an incredibly easy tool for staying in touch with your customers. And it’s also one of the most effective. The SMS text message was first developed in 1984, and there are now 4 billion SMS users worldwide.

If you have your customers opt-in to receive text messages from you, it gives you the opportunity to send them promotions, new product announcements and various other pieces of information.

And these messages can be sent on extremely short notice, so you can use them strategically to increase revenue for your business. What if you owned a restaurant and you were having a slower-than-normal week? Using SMS you could send a promotional text to your customers on Thursday morning, announcing a free appetizer with any meal they purchase that evening.

The message would be delivered immediately, and would quite likely generate additional business and profits that you wouldn’t otherwise have had.

Email

tech gadgets_596
Email is your best tool for building relationships with your target audience. Although consumers love social media it is not the best channel for connectivity. Consider your Facebook business page. You review your page likes, and see that thousands of users clicked "like" and want to connect with your brand. But alas, the Facebook algorithm limits and restricts the content that is displayed to each user. So the overwhelming majority of people who like your page, will never see your updates. The organic reach of Facebook content (that is not-paid) continues to plummet.

When you send your message to an email subscriber that has opted-in to your list, that message remains in their inbox. And if you decide to create a newsletter you can include multiple stories, promotions, images and other relevant content personalized to your subscribers.

Email tends not to get read as quickly so it’s not as effective for extremely time-sensitive information.

The big advantage is that email drives return on investment. If you send great content, and include relevant adverts, every time a person clicks on the ad you generate income. And email is relatively low cost. With most email services today, for a single monthly fee you can send unlimited messages to your subscribers. And you can personalize messages to your audience based on their click, browse and purchase behavior.

Social Media

Social media is the big dog in the house. Monster sites like Facebook with over 1.6 billion users, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and Vine are incredibly popular with mobile internet users. These platforms are working to keep the audience on the site longer. They're constantly adding new features like purchase buttons, messaging, expanded publishing and video to make the sites even more addictive.

And it's working. In 2016, it is estimated that there will be around 2.13 billion social network users around the globe, up from 1.4 billion in 2012. Nearly two-thirds of American adults (65%) use social networking sites, up from 7% when Pew Research Center began systematically tracking social media usage in 2005. And the majority of people accessing social media are doing it through mobile devices (over 71% according to Adobe).

By maintaining a presence on these sites for your business, you’ll have yet another way to stay in touch with your customers, and reach new ones as well. Local businesses can click here our free special report.

It makes business sense that the more opportunities you give your customers to interact with you, the better. In spite of the huge numbers you still have to scale it down and personalize it to your target audience. I loved how in radio we would say "be the demo". Know how your audience prefers to be contacted. There is a huge advantage to showing "personalization" even in mass marketing and communications.

Your goal should be to reach your audience, with their permission through their mobile devices. When you make this happen it will be personal and not just business. And that's what relationships are all about.
Leave your thoughts in the comments.
